Connecting an NCP to another NCP

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

A link-attached NCP can use any of the following connections:
  • Nonswitched SDLC lines
  • Switched SDLC lines
  • Token-ring networks
  • 3172 Nways interconnect controller

The use of a switched SDLC link provides the same capabilities as a nonswitched link except that a static dump of controller storage cannot be transferred directly to the host. The use of the other connections requires that an initial load module be available on the controller disk. However, after the initial load module is activated by VTAM®, subsequent load modules can be transferred over the token-ring or X.25 switched virtual circuit (SVC) connections, using 3720 and 3745 multiple load module support.
