When submitting a new asset, you must provide descriptive
information about the asset.
Procedure
To create and describe an asset:
- In the web client, click Assets.
- Click Submit an Asset. The page opens to the Describe page of the wizard for
submitting a new asset.
- Optional: If you are creating an asset that
is similar to an asset that you have previously created, you can duplicate
an asset that you created to save time. To use an asset that you created
as a template, For more information
about duplicating assets, see Duplicating assets.
- Enter the mandatory information about the asset:
- In the Name field, type a name
for the asset.
- In the Version field, type a
version for the asset.
- From the Community list, select
a community to submit the asset to. After you select a
community, the list of available Types might change.
- In the Type field, select the
asset type that best fits this asset. If this asset does
not fit into any of the asset types listed, contact your repository
administrator and have them create a type. After
you select an asset type, additional attributes to describe the asset
might be available.
- In the Short description field,
type a meaningful short description about the asset.
As you change the community and asset type, the lifecycle that
the asset enters when you submit it to the repository might change.
- Select or type values for any additional descriptive attributes. You must type or enter a value for any attribute that is marked
with an asterisk (*). If the attribute name is underlined, you can
hover your cursor over the name to view a description of the attribute.
- Optional: Type a detailed description for the
asset. The description is visible in the general details page for
an asset; you can use the description to add images, describe the
business problem that this asset solves, insert images, add links
to useful resources, or write instructions on how to use the asset.
- Below the attribute fields, click the Description tab.
- Enter a description in one of the following ways:
- Use the rich text editor to further describe the asset with basic
formatting such as text color, tables, links, images, lists, and indenting.
You can also include .swf video files in the
description.
- Use the html editor to further describe the asset. Click the Toggle
HTML View icon and enter the html content in the largest
section. When you click the Design Mode icon to
return to the rich text editor, you see a rich text preview of the
html content.
Note: When clicking Browse to add multiple
images to the Description that have not been added previously to the
asset, click Save after adding each one.
