You can specify which assets are related to an asset that
you are submitting. Then, you can define relationship types between
related assets.
Before you begin
Important: If a review process from before version
7.2 is established for an asset type, you can bypass the review for
that type by clicking Submit "As-is". You can
also submit assets of that type for review by clicking Submit
to review.
About this task
You can find related assets in these locations:
- On the General Details page of the asset. You can view linked
assets in the Related Assets section and define
relationship types between those assets.
- In a search for an asset. You can review all of the related assets
or only the constrained, or required, assets. Then, you can filter
to find specific assets.
- In an asset download. When you download an asset, you can also
download the related assets. By downloading and evaluating all of
the related assets, you can reuse assets more effectively.
Procedure
To add related assets:
- On either the "Submit an Asset" or "Modify an Asset" page,
click the Related Assets tab. That
tab might contain a list of relationship types:
- Required relationships
- If relationships are required for the asset type, a message on
the Related Assets tab notifies you of the
requirement. In the list of relationship types, required relationships
are displayed as constraints and show the number of assets that are
required for that asset type, such as (1 or more of asset_type).
For
example, an asset of the Release type must be related to an asset
of the Business Solution type by using the Release For relationship.
Repository or community administrators add constraints to asset types.
These requirements must be met in order to update the asset.
- Suggested relationships
- Suggested relationships are displayed as constraints and are shown
as (0 or more of asset_type).
You do not have to add a related asset for a suggested asset type.
If you add a related asset, (0 or more of asset_type) is
still displayed because the asset that you added is not required.
- Unconstrained relationships
- If a related asset is added and its relationship type is not required
or suggested, the related asset is displayed as unconstrained.
- Expand a required or suggested relationship
type, hover your cursor over the Constraint section,
and click Insert. If a relationship type is
not displayed in the section, click Add relationship and
select the relationship type.
- In the Add Related Assets window,
enter the name of the asset to include as a related asset, and then
click Search. If possible, the search
results are limited to the appropriate asset type.
- Select one or more assets to be
related to the asset that you are submitting, and then click OK. If you added an asset type that was not required, the related
asset is displayed as unconstrained.
- Optional: To indicate that a relationship exists for only
a specific version of an asset or range of versions:
- Hover your cursor over the related asset and click the Edit
Relationship icon.
- Define the version range:
- To specify a minimum version for the relationship, select either is or is
greater than. In the Lowest version field,
type a version number. To specify no minimum, leave the field blank.
- To specify a maximum version for the relationship, select either is or is
less than. In the Highest version field,
type a version number. To specify no maximum, leave the field blank.
- To create a relationship with only the highest version number
in the range that you specified, select Relate to the highest
version in the range.
- To create relationships to all versions within the range, select Relate
to all asset versions in the range.
- Click OK.
- Define any other relationships for the asset by repeating
steps 2 through 5.
What to do next
When you are ready to submit the asset to the repository,
click Save. If you are modifying an existing
asset, click Update.
