With the resource attribute type,
you can create links between assets in IBM® Rational® Asset Manager and
elements on Jazz servers such work items on IBM Rational Team Concert,
defects in IBM Rational ClearQuest®,
or requirements on Rational DOORS®. For example, you could create a defect in IBM Rational Team Concert about
an asset, and then create a link between the asset and the work item.
The General Details page of the asset will contain a direct link to
that work item, and the work item will contain a link to the asset.
Or, you can create a forum topic and people can post links to defects
or create requests for enhancements.
Before you begin
Note: If you use Internet Explorer
6, you cannot complete this task. Although you can delete links to
resources and see links to resources on the General Details page of
the asset, you cannot create new links. This is a limitation of Jazz
servers, which require a later version of Internet Explorer.
Procedure
- On the Submit an Asset or Modify an Asset page, select
a Community that has configured a connection
to a Jazz-based server, and select an Asset type that
uses a custom attribute of the Resource type.
- For the resource attribute, click Add
Resource Link.
- From the Friend
Servers menu that appears, select the connection to a
Jazz server to use. A
repository administrator configures the connections that are available
for your community. For more information, see Adding IBM Jazz servers as friend servers.
- If you are
not logged in to the Jazz server, a new browser window opens with
the login page for the Jazz server. Type your User ID and Password for
the Jazz server. Rational Asset Manager uses
your credentials to access information about the resources on the
Jazz server. The user account that you use to log into
the Jazz server must have a Client
Access License for the Jazz server.
- You might be prompted to authorize the Jazz server to collaborate
with Rational Asset Manager.
Click Yes. After you log in, the list of project
areas for the connection refreshes.
Tip: Due to a known
issue with Jazz servers, after you successfully log in, the new browser
window might not close. To continue, close the new browser window,
select the empty option from the Friend Servers list,
and then re-select the connection that you logged in to.
- Move
your mouse over the connection name and in the fly-out menu from the
connection, click the Project Area where you would like to find or
create a resource. The list of project areas available
to you will depend on how the Jazz server has been configured.
- Next:
To create a link to an existing
resource:
- From the fly-out menu from the project area, select <Resource
type> Selection. The types of resources that
you can search for will depend on the Jazz server and project area.
A window will open.
- From the Type list, select or change the
type of resource to search for.
- In the Use Work Item ID or Words Contained in the Text field,
type the resource number or any part of the title. The search results
are updated as you type.
- From the search results, select one resource; then, click OK.
To create a new resource such
as a defect in
Rational Team Concert:
- From the fly-out menu from the project area, select New <Resource
type>. The types of resources that you will
be able to make will depend on the Jazz server, the project area,
and your permissions.
- Type or select out any required or optional information for the
new resource. The types of information you will have to provide will
be depend on the Jazz-based server program you are connecting to,
how the project area on the server has been configured, and what type
of resource you are creating.
- After you have entered all the required information, click OK.
- You can only select one resource at a time. Repeat steps 2 through 7 to create links to multiple work
items.
- To remove any links to work items,
click the X next to the name of the work item.
- When you are ready to submit the asset to the repository,
click Save. If you are modifying an existing
asset, click Update.
Results
A link to the resource on the Jazz
server will be displayed on the General Details page of the asset.
You can click the title of the work item to go to the Jazz server,
or hover your mouse over the link and click the + to
see more details. You might have to log in to the other server before
you can view more information.
To disable the information that
is displayed about the resource when you click the +,
remove your stored credentials for the Jazz server. To do so, click My
Dashboard, and then click Edit.
On your profile page, scroll to the Authorized Jazz Credentials section
and click Delete for the credentials you want
to remove. The links to resources will still work, but other users
will not be able to see a summary when they hover their mouse pointers
over the link.
If the links stop working, check that the servers
for the Jazz application and Rational Asset Manager are
set to the same current date, time, and time zone.
