Adding a measurement set

When you edit the configurable service for a MedicalDeviceInput node, use the IBM® Integration Toolkit to add a measurement set to specify the medical measurements to be collected by a medical device.

Before you start:
  1. Configure your MedicalDeviceInput node by selecting a configurable service file for the node. See Configuring a MedicalDeviceInput node.
  2. Open the Medical Device Configurable Service editor to edit the configurable service for your MedicalDeviceInput node. See Editing the configurable service for a MedicalDeviceInput node by using the IBM Integration Toolkit.

A measurement set is a group of medical measurements that can be applied to a medical device to specify the measurements that the device collects. Measurements are either discrete values, alarm alerts, or waveforms. Discrete values and alarm alerts must have a polling interval defined in the measurement set. The interval specifies how frequently the measurement is collected.

The measurements are collected by the MedicalDeviceInput node and can be used in your message flow applications. The measurement set that a device uses is defined in the device connection. Every device you want to collect data from must have a measurement set, but more than one device can use the same measurement set if the devices are of the same device type. In a measurement set you can add notes and tags about the measurement set. Notes and tag fields are text fields that can be used to filter the list of measurement sets.

To add a new measurement set:

  1. If the Edit Measurement Set window is not open, in the Medical Device Configurable Service editor, in the Measurement Sets area, click the New icon. The Edit Measurement Set window opens.
  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the measurement set.
  3. In the Device Type field, select the type of the device that the measurement set can be applied to. The measurements that can be collected by the device type that you selected are shown in the measurements table.
  4. In the Notes field, enter any notes required for the measurement set.
  5. In the Tags field, enter any tags for the measurement set.
  6. In the measurements table, select the measurements to add to your measurement set:
    1. Optional: To filter the list of measurements, in the Filter field enter text that you want to search for. Your filter text is searched for in all of the fields shown in the measurements table, except Use. The filter text is case sensitive. The list of measurements is filtered as you type.
    2. Add measurements to your measurement set by selecting Use for the measurements you want to add.
    3. You can change the polling interval for discrete and alarm alert measurements in your measurement set. To change the polling interval for a measurement, select the entry in the Interval column. Enter a new value for the interval and press Enter. The interval is shown in seconds. All discrete and alarm alert measurements must have a polling interval defined.
    4. You can add notes for measurements that you have added to your measurement set. To add a note, in the required measurement, click the Notes field. Enter any required notes, then press Enter.
    5. You can add tags for measurements that you have added to your measurement set. To add a tag, in the required measurement, click the Tags field. Enter any required tags, then press Enter.
  7. Click OK. The Edit Measurement Set window closes.
  8. To save your changes, click the Save icon in the upper right of the Medical Device Configurable Service editor.
