Converting objects for import

Use FileNet® Deployment Manager to convert the exported objects in the deployment data set.

When you run the conversion operation, the deployment data set and the data maps are used to convert the source environment objects with information that is specific to the destination environment.

On the source-destination pair tab, the check boxes Use when converting assets can be used to control if a data map is applied during the conversion phase. The following examples are possible use cases for which you would not want to convert assets:
  • If the assets are being imported into an object store that uses the same LDAP as the source and the conversion process can be made faster by not applying the Security Principal mappings, as they would have no real effect.
  • If many documents are in the export data set, and you are not using the import option Use storage policies or areas from the imported objects in the deploy data set. The conversion process can then be faster because the values that you are not using during the import process are not converted.
Restriction: During the conversion process, an unmapped entry is benign if it is not referenced by the export data to be converted. Errors occur only when unmapped entries are referenced for conversion.
If a data map contains unmapped entries that are referenced for conversion, complete one of the following steps:
  • Modify the unmapped entries in the environments to eliminate the inconsistencies, then re-create the half maps and the data map.
  • Elect not to convert objects that are referenced by the unmapped entries. In this case, re-create the half maps, excluding these objects in the selection criteria, then re-create the data map.
  • Edit the half maps to add matching labels for any unmapped entries; then, re-create the data map. For more information, see Edit labels in a half map.

To convert objects for import:

  1. In FileNet Deployment Manager, right-click the source-destination pair for this deployment and then click Convert Assets.
  2. Select the type of asset to convert and click Next.
    Option Description
If you select Content Platform Engine deployment data set:
    1. In the Select Deploy Dataset field, enter the fully qualified name of the data set that is exported from the source environment.
    2. Click Next.
    3. In the Select Folder for Converted Deploy Dataset field, enter the fully qualified name of the folder in which FileNet Deployment Manager is to place the converted deployment data set. The default directory is P8DeploymentData/Environments/<destination_environment>/Assets.

FileNet Deployment Manager places the converted data set into a new subfolder of the folder that you specify in this field. The subfolder is named after the deployment data set name with ".converted" appended to the name. For example, if you accept the default directory of P8DeploymentData/Environments/<destination_environment>/Assets, where <destination_environment> is "targetSystem", and if the deployment data set is named "invoiceFolder", FileNet Deployment Manager creates the following folder for the converted data set: P8DeploymentData/Environments/targetSystem/Assets/invoiceFolder.converted.

The conversion process fails if a required map that is referenced by the export data is not mapped to a destination item. To prevent this situation, review the data maps for the deployment before you run the Convert Assets deployment operation. You might also want to perform a trial conversion to verify that the result is as expected.
