IBM FileNet P8, Version 5.2.1

Prepare data for deployment

You can prepare and export global configuration data, object store data, or workflow system data from a source environment, making it ready for future deployment (import) to a destination environment.

After preparing FileNet® P8 assets for deployment in the source environment, you create a deployment data set of exported objects. For an overview of the deployment process, see Deployment overview.

Creating an export data set requires an export manifest, which is a list of assets to be exported from an environment. For information about creating an export manifest, see Creating or updating an export manifest. For information about creating a deployment data set, see Creating deployment data set.

After you create a deployment data set from the source environment, the next steps are to create any half maps that are required for the source and destination environments. You can use the half maps to create the data maps for the source-destination pair. The data maps are used by the convert operation to prepare the data for analysis and import.

Step Description Reference
Preparation Identify the objects that are to be deployed. Identifying the objects to be deployed
Create an export manifest Use FileNet Deployment Manager to create an export manifest that identifies the objects from the Content Platform Engine that you want to export into a deploy data set. Creating or updating an export manifest
Export Use FileNet Deployment Manager to export objects from the Content Platform Engine that you want to export into a deploy data set. Creating deployment data set
Create source half maps Use FileNet Deployment Manager to create source half maps. Extracting the source environment half maps
Create destination half maps Use FileNet Deployment Manager to create destination half maps. Extracting the destination environment half maps
Create a source-destination pair and data maps Use FileNet Deployment Manager to create a source and destination pair. FileNet Deployment Manager adds the new source-destination pair to the deployment tree. You then must create at least the object store data map for the source-destination pair. The other data maps are optional, depending on the contents of the deployment data set and how closely the source and destination environments match each other. Creating a source-destination pair definition
Conversion Use FileNet Deployment Manager to convert the objects in the deploy data set for import. Converting objects for import
Change impact analysis Use FileNet Deployment Manager to perform a simulated import of converted export objects into a FileNet P8 destination environment, reporting the potential import errors and the change impact on the destination environment. This operation is informational only: it does not modify the destination environment in any way. Analyzing objects for import
