Integration with IBM FileNet P8 applications

You can integrate several IBM® FileNet® P8 applications with IBM Content Navigator.

IBM FileNet Workplace XT and IBM FileNet Application Engine

If you have an existing IBM FileNet P8 system and use IBM FileNet Application Engine or IBM FileNet Workplace XT, you can continue to use these applications after you install IBM Content Navigator.

The following features can be used in IBM Content Navigator but require IBM FileNet Application Engine or IBM FileNet Workplace XT to be set up and configured:
  • Stored Searches (IBM Content Navigator can create search templates)
  • Workflows
  • Workflow email notification
  • Workflow subscriptions
  • Document and folder entry templates
  • Entry template with workflows
  • Folders with entry template associations
  • Security Policies
In IBM Content Navigator, users can launch workflows, review and approve work items, and assign work to other users. When you install IBM Content Navigator, you must complete the following tasks to enable the web client to access IBM FileNet P8 workflows:
  • Use the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool to configure Process Engine for IBM Content Navigator. When you run this task, IBM Content Navigator registers the IBM Content Navigator application and creates the IBM Content Navigator step processor in the isolated region. For more information, see Configuring Process Engine for IBM Content Navigator (FileNet P8).
  • Use IBM FileNet Process Engine Configuration Console to configure the server base URLs for the web application workflows that you want to view through IBM Content Navigator.
  • Use IBM FileNet Process Engine Configuration Console to create an application space for IBM Content Navigator. For more information, see Creating an application space for IBM Content Navigator.

Integrating with IBM Enterprise Records

If a document is declared as a record in the IBM FileNet P8 repository, IBM Content Navigator recognizes the document as a record and displays the record icon. However, IBM Content Navigator does not include other actions or features that are related to records management. You do not need to perform any actions to integrate IBM Content Navigator with IBM Enterprise Records.

Integrating with IBM Watson Content Analytics

If you have IBM Watson Content Analytics installed and configured, you can use IBM Watson Content Analytics plug-in that is included with IBM Content Navigator. The plug-in enables users to search one or more IBM Watson Content Analytics collections from the IBM Content Navigator web client. When a user enters search terms in the search field in the global toolbar, the plug-in provides:
  • Type-ahead search suggestions
  • An estimated number of results for the search terms

When the user runs the search, the Analytics view opens and displays the full list of search results, the facet tree, and the dynamic facet tree. The user can then view and work with the documents that are returned by the result.

To use the IBM Watson Content Analytics plug-in, you must register and configure the plug-in in the IBM Content Navigator administration tool. For more information, see Configuring the IBM Content Analytics plug-in.
