About this task

You install the product using IBM Installation Manager. Installation Manager installs products from one or more product repositories. On z/OS, you can also download and uncompress the product as an Installation Manager portable install.

Procedure

  1. Create an Installation Manager.
    Perform the following procedures:
  2. Install WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5.
  3. Optional: Install the Web Server Plugins for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5.

Results

Notes on logging and tracing:
  • Logs are located in the /global/instmgr/appdata/logs directory of Installation Manager's application data location. For example:
  • The main log files are time-stamped ASCII XML files in the logs directory.
  • The log.properties file in the logs directory specifies the level of logging or tracing that Installation Manager uses. To turn on tracing for the WebSphere Application Server plug-ins, for example, create a log.properties file with the following content:
    com.ibm.ws=DEBUG
    com.ibm.cic.agent.core.Engine=DEBUG
    global=DEBUG
    Restart Installation Manager as necessary, and Installation Manager produces traces for the WebSphere Application Server plug-ins.
  • Then run the Installation Manager command or job you wish to trace.

What to do next

You can use Installation Manager to install the DMZ Secure Proxy Server for IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS, the Web Server Plug-ins for WebSphere Application Server on z/OS, IBM WebSphere SDK Java™ Technology Edition Version 7.0, and the IBM HTTP Server for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS.
