Obtaining an Installation Manager installation kit for installing the product on z/OS

The installation kit for the IBM® Installation Manager is provided with the WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS® Version 8.5 product as 5665-IMZ (FMID HGIN140). You can also download the IBM Installation Manager installation kit to your z/OS system.

Procedure

Choose one of the following options to obtain Installation Manager installation files:

  • Obtain the Installation Manager install kit from Shop zSeries.
    1. Order the no-charge product 5655-IMZ (FMID HGIN140) as either an IBM ServerPac or a Custom-Build Product Delivery Option (CBPDO).
    2. Install the product according to the instructions for the ServerPac or CBPDO.
    3. Mount the SGINKIT filesystem, read-only, at /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4.

  • Obtain the Installation Manager installation kit as a direct download
    1. Download the latest Installation Manager kit for z/OS from Installation Manager and Packaging Utility download links.
    2. Allocate a Unix System Services filesystem with 400 megabytes of free space and mount the filesystem, read/write, at /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4.
    3. Extract the installation files to /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4 using an unzip or jar command.
      For example:
      cd /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4
      unzip  /tmp/agent.installer.zos.motif.s390_1.9.2002.20220323_1321.zip
      
      cd /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4
      jar -xvf  /tmp/agent.installer.zos.motif.s390_1.9.2002.20220323_1321.zip
      
      Note: You can obtain an unzip command as part of the Open Source Languages and Tools for z/OS.
    4. From a privileged ID, set the file permissions and z/OS extended attributes.
      chmod -R 755 /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4
      /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4/set-ext-attr.sh
      
    5. Remount the filesystem from step 2, read-only, at /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4.
