Installing IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition Version 8.0

You can install IBM® WebSphere® SDK Java™ Technology Edition Version 8.0 using IBM Installation Manager Version 1.8.5 or later.

Before you begin

Important: This is an optional Java 8.0 component that was intended for use with WebSphere Application Server for z/OS® Versions 8.5.5.9 through 8.5.5.13. It has not been updated since March 2020. Customers should migrate all application servers using this component to the embedded Java 8.0 in WebSphere Application Server for z/OS as soon as possible. Use the WebSphere administrative console or the managesdk.sh command to switch all nodes and servers to a supported Java level, then uninstall IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition Version 8.0.
  1. Create an Installation Manager on your z/OS system.

You must know the location of the binaries directory for Installation Manager and have access to a user ID that can invoke the Installation Manager.

  2. Install a copy of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5.5.9 or later.
  3. Download the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS sample jobs.

You can also use the sample jobs in the SBBOJCL data set provided with SMP/E FMID HBBO850. The SGINJCL data set provided with FMID HBBO855 contains only the uninstall jobs for IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition Version 8.0.

Procedure

  1. Choose the installed copy of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5 onto which you want to install IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition Version 8.0.
  2. Mount the product file system for this copy of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5 at the same location at which it was originally installed with IBM Installation Manager.
  3. Edit and submit one of the following WebSphere Application Server sample jobs to install the product.
Each job contains complete instructions for the sample path chosen.
    • BBO8INS Install Java 8.0 from the Web-based product and service repository
    • BBO8INSL Install Java 8.0 from a downloaded repository (IBM ShopzSeries, Fix Central)
  4. When product installation is complete, unmount the product file system and remount it read-only for use by WebSphere Application Server nodes and servers.

What to do next

You can now install other WebSphere Application Server components or configure an application-serving environment.

Before you configure a previously configured WebSphere Application Server for z/OS application server node or management node to use the newly installed SDK, you must restart the node. The postinstaller will create required links from the configuration file system to the product file system that contains the new SDK.
