Installing Web Server Plug-ins for IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS

The product code for Web Server Plug-ins for IBM® WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS® Version 8.5 is installed using IBM Installation Manager.

Note: Beginning with Fix Pack 8.5.5.21, the download page for WebSphere Application Server Version 8.5 includes a compressed Installation Manager portable install that contains WebSphere Application Server, IBM HTTP Server, and the WebSphere Web Server Plugins for each fix pack level. Follow the instructions on the download page to download and decompress this portable install. As soon as the portable installation is decompressed and mounted, read-only, at its production location, you can use it to configure or start servers.

Before you begin

Decide whether to use a standard installation (Installation Manager metadata for all products kept in one location) or a portable installation (Installation Manager metadata for each product kept with the product).

You will need the following items:

An Installation Manager install kit. See Obtaining an Installation Manager installation kit for installing the product on z/OS.
The Installation Manager sample jobs for z/OS. These are shipped with no-charge product 5655-IMZ (FMID HGIN140) in the SGINJCL library. You can also download a current version of the sample jobs here.
The WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5 sample jobs for z/OS. These are shipped with product 5655-W65 (FMID HBBO850 or HBBO855) in the SBBOJCL target library. You can also download a current version of the sample jobs here.
An Installation Manager group and user ID. See Installation Manager sample job GIN2ADMN.

If you choose the standard installation method, you will need to create an Installation Manager. See Installing Installation Manager on z/OS.

If you chose to install the product from the Web-based product and service repository, create repository credentials by editing and running Installation Manager sample job GIN2CRED or WebSphere Application Server sample job BBO1CRED.

Procedure

Create a standard installation of Web Server Plug-ins for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5
1. Choose an installation location for this copy of the product.
  The sample jobs assume this location is used:
```
/global/instmgr/products/WebSphere/Plugins/level
```
  where level is an identifier, such as 8.5.5.21.
2. Edit and run the WebSphere Application Server sample job BBO3CFS to allocate and mount the product file system.
3. Edit and submit one of these WebSphere Application Server sample jobs to install the product.
  Each job contains complete instructions for the sample path chosen.
  - BBO3INS Standard installation from the Web-based product and service repository
  - BBO3INSL Standard installation from downloaded repositories (IBM ShopzSeries, Fix Central)
  - BBO3INST Standard installation from the SMP/E-managed repository (FMID HBBO850 only)
4. Unmount the product filesystem and remount it, read-only, at your production location.
Create a portable installation of Web Server plug-ins for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 8.5.
1. Choose an installation directory for this copy of the product.
  The sample jobs assume that this location will be used:
```
/global/instmgr/name
```
  where name is the name you assign to the portable installation. A portable installation can contain several products.
2. Edit and run the WebSphere Application Server sample job BBO3CFSP to allocate and mount a file system for the portable installation.
3. Edit and submit one of these WebSphere Application Server sample jobs to install the product.
  Each job contains complete instructions for the sample path chosen.
  - BBO3INSP Portable installation from the Web-based product and service repository
  - BBO3INSQ Portable installation from downloaded repositories (IBM ShopzSeries, Fix Central)
4. Install any other products into the portable installation, choosing a separate subdirectory for each.
5. Unmount the product filesystem and remount it read-only at your production location.
