Roadmap for installing or upgrading and configuring Data Studio web console

Use the roadmap as an overview of the tasks for installing or upgrading, and then configuring Data Studio web console.

Before you begin

Procedure

To install or upgrade and then configure Data Studio web console:

  1. If you are upgrading from Data Studio web console version 3.2 or newer, do the following tasks to prepare to upgrade:
    1. Stop the currently running version.
    2. If you manually configured Data Studio web console to run as a Windows service, uninstall that service.
  2. Install the software. You can install or upgrade Data Studio web console by running the installation wizard, or by installing silently:
  3. Configure Data Studio web console.

After you install Data Studio web console, you can log in to the web console and access the product in single-user mode. In single-user mode, the default administrative user that you created during installation can access all the features of the product.

Tip: If you upgraded an earlier version of Data Studio web console or Data Studio Health Monitor, the database connections, alert settings, and user authentication settings stored locally or in the repository database are retained. Configuration is required only if you want to add new database connections and configure alerts for these or if you want to configure permissions requirements for the users of the web console.
    1. Optional: Configure Data Studio web console for multi-user mode.

To use the product with other users, you must configure it for multi-user mode by adding a repository database. Then, you can configure authentication for the users and groups of that database. The repository database is also used to store database connections, alerts, alert configuration settings, and other related information.

    2. Add or import database connections

To monitor the health and availability of a data server database with Data Studio web console, you must be connected to that database. When you add a database connection, that database is added to the Data Studio web console list of connections and is available to all of the users that log on to the web console.

    3. Optional: Configure privileges requirements

You can configure the required privileges for users to manage alerts and jobs individually for each of your databases. You do not need to configure any alerts or job privileges to start using the product.

    4. Optional: Configure Data Studio web console alerts

You can configure alert types and thresholds individually for each database connection. You do not need to configure any alerts to start using the product.

  4. Optional: Configure Data Studio client to use Data Studio web console for health monitoring and job management. You can integrate Data Studio web console with the Data Studio client workbench to view alerts, applications, utilities, storage, and other related information and to create and manage jobs on your databases.
