What's New

This release introduces the following features.

CTE support for snapshot views

ClearTeam Explorer (CTE) now supports snapshot views; for more information, refer to the following technotes:

CMI support for web views

Change Management Interface (CMI) supports web views. Note the following restrictions on the use of CMI:

  • CMI does not support use of the Base ClearCase / RTC bridge.
  • In Base ClearCase, web views do not support cleartool settask. Instead, you must select the task every time you check in a new version.
  • The cmiregister command is not supported in the context of a web view. In this case, ClearTeam Explorer prompts for your credentials.

Improved UCM messages

In certain cases involving problems with multiple composite baselines, some error messages do not provide adequate information for resolving the problems. You can set the environment variable CCASE_EXPANDED_MSGS to any nonempty string to enable better error messages in these cases. (If CCASE_EXPANDED_MSGS is empty or non-existent, the messages are unchanged.)

Setting CCASE_EXPANDED_MSGS also changes the output of lsstream -long to show baseline overrides; for example,

cleartool lsstream -long

. . .

foundation baselines:

bl1@\my_pvob (c_no_vob@\my_pvob) (non-modifiable)

c1_INITIAL@\my_pvob (c2@\my_pvob) (modifiable)

(Overrides c2_INITIAL@\my_pvob)

recommended baselines:

bl1@\my_pvob (c_no_vob@\my_pvob)

c2_over@\my_pvob (c2@\my_pvob)

(Overrides c2_INITIAL@\my_pvob)

. . .

Cadence integration environment variable

You can cause the operations checkin, checkout, and delete (uncatalog) to terminate when any of these operations first encounters an error. To do so, set the environment variable CCASE_CDS_ABORT_ON_ERR to the (case-insensitive) value, TRUE.

Platform support

This release introduces support for several platforms. Before installing ClearCase on a newly supported platform, ensure that you have satisfied all system requirements for that platform.

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (x86, linux_390 only). NOTE: Dynamic views are not supported on the Linux Btrfs filesystem; refer to tech note 1690889.
  • VMware ESXi 5.5 (x86)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.6 and 5.11
  • WebSphere Application Server / IBM HTTP Server 8.5.5.3

The following enhancements to CMI are introduced in this release:

  • CMI supports the configuration of Rational Team Concert state transitions; for instructions, refer to Configuring CMI for Rational Team Concert state transitions.
  • The mkcmprovider command supports policy configuration for base ClearCase and UCM; for complete information, refer to the command reference page.
  • ClearTeam Explorer (CTE) supports CMI independent of the RTC bridge for dynamic views only.

Cadence Virtuoso integration

The ClearCase integration with Cadence Virtuoso introduces the following new features:

  • The Library Manager > Design Manager menu and the ClearCase Work Area Manager > File menu include the new menu item Set config spec. By default, Set config spec initiates a reevaluation of the current config spec (refer to setcs  -current). It can also be used to specify the path to a config spec and to set the config spec to its default values.
  • The ClearCase Work Area Manager > ClearCase drop-down menu now includes the menu item, Scan checkedout directories... In the absence of a context, this menu item scans all managed libraries for checked out directories. If a category is set as the context, scanning is confined to the cells and subcategories of that category. The results of a scan are displayed in a form that enables you to check in directories and cancel directory checkouts.
  • The ClearCase Work Area Manager context menu for cell views includes a new option, Show labels..., that displays all labels that are attached to the currently selected version of the cell view.

Improved performance of UCM operations

The performance of some UCM operations, such as mkbl, has been improved.

What's New

This release introduces the following updates and features.

Microsoft Source-Code Control Interface (MS-SCCI) provider for the IBM Rational ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC)

Integrated Development Environments(IDEs) that are compliant with Microsoft's SCC interface can now directly integrate with the ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC). This allows users of web views to perform source control operations: adding files to source control, removing files from source control, renaming files, checking out and checking in files, and viewing the change history and properties of the files that are under source control.

Migrating from the base-ClearCase/Clearquest integration to CMI

The cmi_migrate.pl script and the new clmutil repair commands enable you to migrate from the (Perl) base-ClearCase/Clearquest integration to the Change Management Interface (CMI). The script generates a file of element versions that require CMI task associations. After running cmi_migrate.pl, you use the clmutil repair command to associate versions with the tasks and to repair any broken links. Refer to the reference pages for cmi_migrate.pl and clmutil for detailed information.

Platform support

  • The IBM Global Security Kit (GSKit) has been updated to Version 8.0.50.16.
  • The ClearCase Remote Client and CMAPI now support SP800-131 compliance. Custom configuration may be required for integrated environments, for example, with Rational Team Concert with CCRC or with CMAPI applications that do not use the IBM JRE. For more information, refer to technote 1666060.

The Cadence Virtuoso integration

The ClearCase integration with Cadence Virtuoso includes the following new features:

  • The work area manager indicates whether a checkout is reserved or unreserved. You can also filter checkout listings by type of checkout.
  • The ClearCase menu on the Work Area Manager includes a “Convert checkouts” selection that you can use to convert the state of checkouts from reserved to unreserved and vice versa.
  • The "Label items" dialog supports label replacement with a checkbox; it also allows you to enter a comment. Clicking "Fetch labels" retrieves all label types that exist in the VOBs that contain the selected cellviews. When you check "Replace label" and select the label from the "Label with" drop-down menu, the label is moved to or created on the version that is selected by the view.

Change Management Integration (CMI) features

This release introduces the following CMI features:

  • GUI support in native clients: When you attempt a check in a (base ClearCase) version that has no task association or when you attempt to create or set a (UCM) activity that has no task association, CMI opens a task-selection window in the ClearCase native GUIs (xclearcase, ClearCase Explorer, etc.). Selecting a task allows the ClearCase operation to proceed. . For more information, refer to Technote 1667473.
  • Repairing task-association inconsistencies: CMI maintains a repair log containing information about task associations that have failed. The clmutil utility has been enhanced to enable you to repair such associations (refer to Technote 1667525).
  • Migrating from the base ClearCase integration with ClearQuest to CMI: A new utility generates a file of CMI task associations that must be made. Then you use clmutil to create the associations. For more information, refer to Technote 1667476.

cleartool changes

  • mkelem command

The new -restore option for the mkelem command restores the element-pname.mkelem to its original name, element-pname if the mkelem operation fails in a dynamic view. Refer to the mkelem reference page for details.

  • chproj command

The new -cview option for the chproj command automatically selects the project associated with the current view. In previous releases, users had to explicitly specify the project name by using the project selector option.

rcleartool changes

The remote command line (rcleartool) adds support for creating a baseline or set of baselines for components by using the mklbl command.. Refer to the mkbl reference page for details.

ClearTeam Explorer updates

The new Create project option allows users to create a UCM project from the ClearTeam Explorer. In previous releases, you had to use either the ClearCase Project Explorer or the cleartool mkproj command to create UCM projects.

You can access the Create project option from the ClearCase > Create Project menu in the ClearTeam Explorer, or from the pop-up menu that displays when you right-click on the ClearCase server name, Project VOB folder, or Project folder in the ClearTeam Navigator view.

ClearCase Cadence-Virtuoso integration

In this release, the ClearCase Cadence-Virtuoso integration includes the following new features:

  • Cadence Virtuoso IC support

  • Label view selection feature

When you select a library for labeling,  use the label view selection feature to select cellviews for labeling by name or type. You can also remove entries from the selection list before applying the label. In earlier releases, when you selected a library for labeling, all of the cellviews within the library were selected by default.

  • Support for sub-directories in cellview

When you run Cadence GDM (Generic Data Management) operations for a cellview, you can apply operations to its subdirectories and any content within the subdirectories. In previous releases of the ClearCase Cadence-Virtuoso integration, operations only applied to the top-level cellview directory and its contents.

  • Applying labels to library and cell when labeling a cellview

When you apply a label to a cellview, you can also apply the label to the parent directories of the cell and cellview so that the label is applied to the cellview, the cell, and the library. In previous releases, when you applied a label to a cellview, the label was only added to the cellview.

What's New

This release includes the following updates and new features.

Changes to the Cadence Virtuoso integration

This release introduces a number of enhancements to the ClearCase integration with Cadence Virtuoso. Note that at this release, ClearCase no longer supports Virtuoso 5.1.x.
  • Enhancements to Work Area Manager (WAM) checkout reporting
    • Recognition of checked-out-elsewhere (COE) elements--the Work Area Manager (WAM) recognizes the case of an element with a reserved checkout to a view other than the current view (on the same branch). The element is displayed as COTHview-tag, where view-tag identifies the view with the checkout.
    • Checkout reporting--the WAM now shows the checkouts in the current view.
    • Display of view tags for COE elements--view tags are displayed for checked-out-elsewhere (COE) elements instead of host-name:view-storage-path (unless the tag cannot be retrieved).

This change is reflected in the display of COE elements by gdmstatus -where, libManager, the WAM, and cell view editor (CVE) banners and property sheets.

    • New WAM filter UI: You can use this dialog to specify a filter for every column; the result is the rows that satisfy the cumulative ANDing of the filter expressions (the dialog is populated with the currently active filter, if any). The dialog includes a "Prefetch data" check box that you can select to apply a filter on design management (DM) columns without expanding the tree nodes. This option not only fetches the DM data from ClearCase but also updates the WAM with DM information about the nodes. After data has been fetched at least once, you can choose not to select this option in subsequent filtering operations unless you suspect that the DM information for some nodes has changed. A tooltip is provided for the "Prefetch data" check box to warn of the possible delay in fetching the data.
  • New environment variables
    • CLEARCASE_EDA--the environment variable setting, CLEARCASE_EDA=Cadence Virtuoso can be used to trigger VOB operations in a VOB containing Cadence library objects to ensure that users are using the integration, and not attempting ClearCase operations outside of the integration (such as using cleartool). The setting is effective for any operation performed in the Virtuoso Library Manager, the ClearCase Work Area Manager (WAM), the ClearCase Hierarchy Manager (HM), and all Generic Data Management operations (gdm* commands).
    • CCASE_CDS_CANCEL_IDENTICAL--when set to TRUE, this environment variable causes gmdci to cancel the checkout of a version that would be identical to its predecessor if it were to be checked in. By default, CCASE_CDS_CANCEL_IDENTICAL=FALSE.
  • Version comparison features

The following comparison features are accessible from libManager and WAM. They display selected versions side-by-side in separate editors:

    • "Compare with Predecessor" displays the current and immediate predecessor versions.
    • "Compare with another version" displays the current version and any predecessor that you select.
  • Opening a previous version

The "Open version" menu item (under ClearCase menu in Cell View Editors) invokes a version selector dialog that you can use to select an older element version. The selection is opened in a new editor instance in read-only mode.

Enhancements to the ClearCase remote client (CCRC)

The CCRC GUI includes the following enhancements:
  • The Preview only option for the Update Resources operation can be set as the default for that operation through Preferences > Team > ClearTeam Explorer > Integration.
  • When displayed in the version tree, a checked-out version is annotated according to its checkout state: RESERVED or UNRESERVED.
  • The GUI supports upgrading an unlabelled baseline; refer to the General tab of the Baseline Properties page.

The command-line client (rcleartool) supports the UCM deliver command:

  • Deliver changes in the source stream:

    rcleartool deliver [[–str/eam stream-selector] [ –to integration-view-tag] [tar/get stream-selector]
    [ –cac/t | –act/ivities activity-selector... | –bas/elines baseline-selector ...]
    [ –com/plete] [–gm/erge | –ok ]
    [–q/uery | –abo/rt | –qal/l | –qnt/rivial ][–f/orce]

  • Resume or complete work on a deliver operation

    rcleartool deliver { –res/ume | –com/plete } [–str/ eam stream-selector ]
    [ –gm/ erge | –ok] [–q/ uery | –ab/ort | –qal/l | –qnt/rivial ] [ –f/orce]

  • Cancel a deliver operation in progress:

    rcleartool deliver –cancel [ –str/eam stream-selector ]

Support for gnu make ifeq

The clearmakecommand supports the limited nesting of ifeq-like statements, similar to gnu make.

Changes to cleartool

The new -master option for the cleartool chflevel command enables the current replica to master a specified replica for the purpose of raising its feature level:

chflevel -rep/lica [ -master ] feature-level replica-selector

Changes to multitool

There are no changes to multitool in this release.

New platform support

This release supports Red Hat Linux 5.10 on x86, IBM S/390, and PowerPC architectures.
