IBM Support

Raising a remote replica Feature Level results in "Can't raise the replica feature level of a remote replica" error

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to run the IBM Rational ClearCase command "cleartool chflevel" results in the error "cleartool: Error: Can't raise the replica feature level of a remote replica."

Symptom

Running cleartool chflevel results in the error:

cleartool: Error: Can't raise the replica feature level of a remote replica.
cleartool: Error: Unable to raise the replica feature level - error detected by ClearCase subsystem"

Cause

When a remote replica's feature level is raised, ClearCase needs to validate that the maximum feature level is supported by the version of ClearCase that is running on that replica's host.

If the maximum feature level is not supported, the error is returned.

Resolving The Problem

Rerun the chflevel command with -master argument, specifying feature level 8 as follows:

cleartool chflevel -replica 8 -master <remote_replica_tag>@\<vob_tag>
