Scheduled automatic reloading of a communication controller

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

You can automatically reload your IBM® 3745 Communication Controllers at a scheduled date and time.

Procedure

  1. Set the date and time associated with the specific load module.
  2. Maintenance operator subsystem (MOSS) sends an alert before starting the IPL (default is 60 minutes). The alert is not displayed by VTAM®. The alert is forwarded to the NetView® program and can be viewed using the NetView hardware monitor. You can have the NetView program send a message to the NetView operator when an alert is received by modifying the NetView program automation table. For information about modifying this table, see the NetView for z/OS® Automation Guide. For information about the format of the ALERT, see the 3745 Guide to Timed IPL and Rename Load Module.
  3. MOSS IPLs the load module from the communication controller disk at the specified time.

Results

For example, if you want to have your communication controller IPLed at 1600 on 24 May 1993, then you would use the command:
MODIFY NET,LOAD,ID=ncpa,ACTION=SETTIME,NOTIFY=30,
IPLTIME=(05/24/93,16:00),LOADMOD=ncp1a

This command causes MOSS to load the load module ncp1a into NCP ncpa at 16:00 on 24 May 1993. This command also indicates that MOSS will send out an alert 30 minutes before the scheduled IPL (NOTIFY operand).
