IBM InfoSphere Streams Version 4.1.0

Working with instances

You manage and monitor instances in Streams Studio.

About this task

The Streams Instances folder contains a list of InfoSphere® Streams instances. When Streams Studio starts, it obtains a list of instances that you own. These instances are automatically added to the Streams Instances folder. Instances that you do not own but added to the folder in a previous session are also listed. The instances are also listed in the Instances folder under each domain

You can set one of the instances as the default instance. To set an instance as the default instance:
  1. In the Streams Explorer view, right-click an instance.
  2. From the menu, click Set as Default.

The default instance is used by the SPL application launch configuration and SPL application set launch configuration. If the $default variable is specified as the instance to use in the launch configuration, the application is submitted to the default instance. Launch configurations that are generated by launch shortcuts specify the $default variable in the Instance field by default.

Streams Explorer indicates the instance state, for example, whether the instance is running or if there is an alert. If an instance changes state as a result of an action that is performed outside of Streams Studio, the Streams Explorer automatically updates during the next refresh cycle. If you turned off auto-refresh, you need to either re-enable it or manually refresh the instance to see any instance state changes.
For each instance, the Streams Explorer provides the following folders.
  • Instance Resource Specs. Contains the list of the instance resource specifications.
  • Resources. Contains the list of the instance resources. This list includes explicit hosts that the instance was configured with and any resources that are acquired to satisfy resource specifications when the instance started.
  • Runtime Service Leaders. Lists the management service leaders for the running instance.
  • Exported Streams Lists all of the streams that are exported by all of the jobs in the instance.
  • Jobs. Each job is listed as its own folder.

You might see more instance properties in the Properties view.

Note: If you do not see any instances, most likely you need to connect to a domain.
