What's new as of October 2016

The Hardware Management Console (HMC) is being updated to replace the existing Common Information Model (CIM) server with a new representational state transfer (REST) based interface. HMC version V8R8.5.0 is the last version of HMC to support the CIM server, and is also the first version of HMC to support all REST API functions that are required by the cluster monitor interfaces. Enhancements were made to the PowerHA command-line interfaces and APIs to support this new function. Refer to Implementing high availability for more details on this feature.

The following commands are enhanced for the IBM® PowerHA® SystemMirror® for i licensed program.

The PowerHA graphical interface does not currently support cluster monitors for HMCs with a REST server.

Enhanced IBM PowerHA SystemMirror for i licensed program number (5770-HAS)

Start of changeIn 7.2, IBM PowerHA SystemMirror for i licensed program supports enhancements to the graphical interface, command-line interface, and APIs. This new function can assist administrators in configuring and managing high availability solutions. IBM PowerHA SystemMirror for i licensed program has been repackaged into an express, standard, and enterprise editions. Below is what each edition supports.
  • IBM PowerHA for i Express® Edition supports full system HyperSwap
  • IBM PowerHA for i Standard Edition supports synchronous geographic mirroring, switched disk, switched logical units (LUNs), FlashCopy®, and all express edition function.
  • IBM PowerHA for i Enterprise Edition supports asynchronous geographic mirroring, Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and all express and standard edition function.

PowerHA graphical interface enhanced

An enhancement to the PowerHA graphical interface provides the ability to request synchronization of monitored resources that have a global status of Inconsistent. When requested, the current attributes values on a specified node are sent to the other nodes in the cluster administrative domain, which can result in the global status of the monitored resources becoming Consistent.

PowerHA Administrative Domain supports object ownership and authorities

PowerHA Administrative Domain has been enhanced to synchronize ownership and object authority of monitored resources, including private authority of user profiles. In general, the following managed resource element (MRE) owner and authority attributes are supported: object owner, object authority entry, object authorization list, and object primary group.

High Availability Solutions Manager graphical interface policies

In 7.2, the High Availability Solutions Manager graphical interface was removed. Since the High Availability Solutions Manager graphical interface is not available to show the user what High Availability Solutions Manager policy choices they have made, PowerHA has provided a simple tool to dump the High Availability Solutions Manager policy settings to the job log.
