Migrating from Business Space to dashboard

WSRR V8.5.0 introduced a new dashboard user interface that replaces Business Space.

About this task

When you upgrade from an earlier version of WSRR, you must export your spaces and then import them to WSRR 8.5.5 as Dashboard views. This mechanism captures any customizations that you have made in Business Space, and any new spaces that you have created, in addition to the standard spaces. If you upgrade and migrate your configuration profile from your previous system, note that the dashboard will be blank until you import your spaces to become dashboard views, or create new views based on the dashboard templates.

Note: You can only import spaces from WSRR V7.5 and WSRR V8.0. Importing spaces from WSRR V7.0 is not supported.

Procedure

To migrate your Business Space spaces:

  1. In your source WSRR system, export your spaces by completing the following steps:
    1. In the Business Space of your source system, click Manage Spaces to open the space manager.
    2. For each space that you want to export, click Actions and select Export from the shortcut menu. The space is exported in a file named space_name.zip.
  2. Complete the migration of the configuration profile and contents from your source WSRR system to your target WSRR V8.5.5 system, as described in Upgrading from WSRR V6.3, V7.0, V7.5, or V8.0. If you do not migrate your existing configuration profile when upgrading, then you must migrate your Business Space configuration manually by completing the following steps:
    1. In the WSRR web UI configuration perspective of your source system, select Active Profile > Business Space Configurations.
    2. Select the configurations that you want to migrate, and click Export.
    3. In the WSRR web UI configuration perspective of your target system, select Active Profile > Dashboard Configurations > Widget Settings.
    4. Import the files that you exported from your source system.
  3. Open the dashboard in your target WSRR V8.5.5 system. Note that the dashboard is empty at this point in the procedure.
  4. Import the spaces by completing the following steps:
    1. In the dashboard, select Configure (configure icon) > Manage Views.
    2. Select Import view.
    3. Browse to the location of your space_name.zip, select the file and click OK.
    4. Repeat these steps for each space that you want to import as a view.
  5. Validate your new views by completing the following steps:
    1. Check that the widget wiring in the new view matches the wiring from your old spaces. View the wires by editing each page in turn, and clicking the Edit wiring link. You can then check the wiring for all of the widgets on that page. See Wiring widgets for more information. Add in any wires that were missing.
    2. If you have any Page Navigator widgets that use Open Page or Close Page, these options are no longer supported. Edit the pages in the dashboard that have Page Navigator widgets that use one of these settings. You can either delete the widget, or convert the widget to use the Switch Page option to move to another page in the same view. See Configuring the Page Navigator widget for more details.
