Configuring instant messaging

By default, the SmartCloud Notes service automatically connects IBM Verse, web, and IBM® Notes® 8.5.2 clients with embedded Sametime® to the IBM Connections™ Cloud instant messaging community. You can configure clients to connect to an on-premises Sametime community, instead.

By default, the IBM SmartCloud® Notes service connects IBM Verse, SmartCloud Notes web, and Notes clients with embedded Sametime to the Connections Cloud instant messaging community.
Connecting browser clients to an on-premises Sametime community
You can connect IBM Verse and SmartCloud Notes web clients to an IBM Sametime community at your company site. This configuration allows cloud users to chat with other cloud users as well as on-premises users who are not in the cloud.

Creating an installation package that connects rich clients to the cloud community using SAML authentication
If users log in with your organization's authentication credentials and use SAML token authentication for federated identity management, you can create a pre-configured installation package for standalone Sametime Connect or for Notes with embedded Sametime. SAML support in Sametime and in Notes uses the form-based or browser-based user and password login type. With browser-based login, the client opens an embedded browser to display the login page.
