The table in this topic describes the effects of each option in the Instant Messaging Integration page (SmartCloud Notes Administration > Account Settings > Instant Messaging).

Enable the service instant messaging community for IBM Notes and SmartCloud Notes web users

Verse users can connect to the Connections Cloud community and chat with its members. Web users can connect if they complete these steps:
  1. Click More > Preferences
  2. Under Instant messaging, select Enable instant messaging.

Dual communities are not supported.

Users who use Notes 8.5.2 or later installed with the Sametime (integrated) option can connect to the Connections Cloud community and chat with its members.

The new connection becomes the default community and overwrites any existing connection to an on-premises Sametime community; however, the user can add the original community, and other communities, as secondary communities.

Notes 8.5.1 Fix Pack 5 clients are not affected by this option. To enable them to access the community, configure the clients to connect.

Enable an on-premises IBM Sametime community for SmartCloud Notes web users

Verse users and web users can connect to an on-premises Sametime community after you configure the on-premises environment.

Dual communities are not supported.

Notes users can use instant messaging, but you must configure the clients manually to connect to communities.

Dual communities are supported if the cloud community is the primary community.

Disable instant messaging integration

Verse and web users cannot chat.

Notes users can use instant messaging, but you must configure the clients manually to connect to communities.

Dual communities are supported if the cloud community is the primary community.
