Monitoring FileNet P8

The IBM® System Dashboard for Enterprise Content Management is composed of two major components: the listener and the dashboard. The listener receives a stream of events and other performance information from an individual IBM FileNet application, and sends the gathered data to dashboards for analysis and storage. The listener is the equivalent of an agent in the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) world and offers the client the ability to optionally accumulate and aggregate performance data over time.

The dashboard is a client program that retrieves reports from the listener and processes the gathered data, such as storing it, displaying it graphically, or using it to perform other application-specific tasks. The listener waits passively for a dashboard to connect, to inquire about the performance counter values in the listener, and to determine the health of the application, or to send custom commands and messages back to the listener. In the absence of a dashboard connection, the presence of the listener is nearly invisible to an outside observer.
