You can optimize the performance of the web client by setting
minimum screen resolutions, limiting favorites and browser sessions,
and following other configuration tips.
About this task
Use these following tips to optimize the performance of
the web client:
- Screen resolution and window size
- To avoid seeing truncated items in the web client, set the screen
resolution to a minimum of 1024 x 768 pixels. Also, IBM® Content
Navigator works best when you
maximize your browser window. If you have issues when the window is
not maximized, increase the window size or maximize the window to
resolve the problems.
- Drop-down lists
- Drop-down lists open up or down based on location in the page.
If you encounter a problem with the drop-down lists, maximize your
browser window or reduce the number of toolbar rows.
- Browser sessions
- You can have only one open IBM Content
Navigator session per browser.
Multiple sessions might result in unpredictable behavior.
- Favorites
- One hundred user favorites are supported for each desktop to which
a user has access. If users can access the same repository from multiple
desktops, they must create the same favorites in each desktop.
In addition, the following configuration settings
can have an impact on the web client:
- Language preferences
- The language preference is determined by the language setting
defined by the browser. The Apple Safari browser obtains the language
setting from the operating system.
- Browsers
- IBM Content
Navigator requires
that the browser intranet usage is enabled and that pop-up windows
are not blocked for the site.
- Java™ applets
- Some features are available as Java applets,
such as the Send Email action and opening viewers. You must download
and install the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) software on the client machines to use the Send
Email action and to open viewers.
If you are using an applet in
a secure SSL environment, you might need to download a certificate.
Without the certificate, an error occurs. In addition, the JRE software
must be configured to never automatically update because it can update
to a new release that is not supported. You must set the Java and JRE memory for the features, such as
opening large files in a viewer, to function properly.
The bit version of the browser must match the bit version of
the JRE software. For example, if you are using a 32-bit browser,
you must use 32-bit JRE software. If you are using a 64-bit browser,
you must use 64-bit JRE software.
