Maximo Archiving with InfoSphere Optim Data Growth Solution, Version 7.6

Using an archive request to archive data

The InfoSphere® Optim™ Data Growth Solution interface is used to initially create archive requests and to purge data from the production database. When you are confident that the archive files define the objects and relationships that you want to archive, use the InfoSphere Optim Data Growth Solution command-line interface to script the operation.

About this task

You must archive objects in the order shown because of the relationships to external data in the business objects. For example, purchase requisitions must be archived before purchase orders. Workflows are shown last in this list. Workflows are not dependent on data in other objects, so workflows can be archived before or after any other objects are archived.
  1. Purchase requisitions
  2. Purchase orders
  3. Invoices
  4. Work orders
  5. Assets
  6. Service Request Tickets
  7. Workflows

See the IBM® Optim User Manual for information about the command-line interface.

Procedure

  1. Open InfoSphere Optim Data Growth Solution.
  2. Click File > Open.
  3. Expand the list of stored archive requests by clicking the plus sign (+) next to Archive Request in the Identifier tree.
  4. Double-click MAXIMO (the schema owner in the InfoSphere Optim Data Growth Solution database) to display a list of stored archive requests in the Archive Request list.
The available archive requests are listed by name, in the Name column. The default names of the archive requests that IBM supplies are:
    MX75ASARCH
Archive request for Maximo® Asset Management assets.
    MX75INARCH
Archive request for Maximo Asset Management invoices.
    MX75POARCH
Archive request for Maximo Asset Management purchase orders.
    MX75PRARCH
Archive request for Maximo Asset Management purchase requisitions.
    MX75SRARCH
Archive request for Maximo Asset Management service request tickets.
    MX75WFARCH
Archive request for Maximo Asset Management work flows.
    MX75WOARCH
Archive request for Maximo Asset Management work orders.
  5. Double-click one of the listed requests to open the Archive Request editor. The results are similar for all supported archive request names.

The archive request editor displays the default names for the archive file and archive index file. The names contain a sequence number that applies a six-digit integer to the file name to ensure uniqueness. You can, optionally, change the name that precedes the sequence number, but do not change the file extensions. The file names must follow operating system requirements for valid file names.

  6. Leave the Defer Delete after Archive option selected until you run the archive operation and review the results to ensure that they are what you expected. The default processing options are set to defer deletion of the tables from the production database, compress the archive file, generate statistics about the operation, and process file attachments. Clear any options that you do not want to use. When you are satisfied that the archive request includes the data that you want to archive, clear the option to defer deletion and run the request again. Alternatively, you can create a separate delete request using the delete request editor. The option to Process File Attachments is selected by default. Setting or clearing the Process File Attachments option has no effect on the archive process because file attachments are not supported in this version of Maximo Archiving.
  7. Optional: Click Tools > Edit Access Definition to review the tables and relationships archived by this archive request. You can change the criteria if necessary. See the IBM Optim User’s Guide for details about the controls that are available on the Tables and Relationships tabs in the Access Definition Editor. Close the access definition when you are done to return to the archive request.
  8. If you changed anything in the archive request, click Save or Save As if you want to store the changes.
  9. Archive the tables and relationships specified in the access definition. Click File > Run.
  10. Review the archive process report to verify the result of the archive operation.
