You must log in as the default IBM® Content
Analytics with Enterprise Search administrator to start
the system.
The user account must be one that can be authenticated
with local authentication. If you attempt to start the system with
an Andrew File System (AFS®) account, errors occur.
The
first time that you log in as the administrative user and start the
system, the First Steps program starts automatically. On Windows Server
2008, click , and click Run as
administrative user.
Restriction: The First Steps
program does not start automatically if you are a non-root user on
an AIX or Linux system. If you want to use the First Steps program,
you must start it manually.
To start the system:
- Log in as the default IBM Content
Analytics with Enterprise Search administrator.
Start the common communication layer (CCL) by entering the command
that is appropriate for your operating system. Enter the command from
the location that is specified in the table for your type of system
configuration.

- To start CCL in the background:
- Launch Windows Services: .
- Right-click IBM Content
Analytics with Enterprise Search and
click Start.
- Start all system components by entering the following command
from the location listed in the table.
- All operating systems
- esadmin system startall

This command starts all the system components and sessions,
such as:- The CCL on the computer where you run the command, if the CCL
is not already running
- The database network server on the crawler server
- The ESAdmin session on the controller server
- The enterprise search application and content analytics miner on the search servers
- The IBM Content
Analytics with Enterprise Search Information
Center
- Open a browser and enter the following URL to start the
administration console, where hostname:port is
the host name and port of the server where the administration console
is installed:
http://hostname:port/ESAdmin/
- Log in to the administration console as the default IBM Content
Analytics with Enterprise Search administrator.
For
information about using the administration console, see the online
help. To view the administration documentation, open the information
center or browse to the ES_INSTALL_ROOT/docs/locale/pdf directory
and open the iiysa.pdf file, where locale is
your language locale, such as en_US for English or de_DE for German.
- If your environment contains multiple servers, add the
additional servers to the system topology in the administration console
and assign a role to each server.
