IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search, Version 3.0.0

Starting the First Steps program

After you install IBM® Content Analytics with Enterprise Search, you can use the First Steps program to start the system, verify the installation, test the provided search and text mining applications, and open the documentation.

In a multiple server installation, you must run the First Steps program on the master server. You cannot run this program on additional servers. To run the First Steps program:
  1. Log in as the IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search administrator and follow the procedure for your operating system:
    • On AIX® or Linux, configure X Window System and enter the following commands, where display_server_host_name:0.0 is the host name for the system that you are using to run First Steps:
      export DISPLAY=display_server_host_name:0.0
      firststep.sh
    • On Windows, either open the Start > All Programs menu and click IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search > First Steps or double-click the firststep.bat file in the ES_INSTALL_ROOT\bin directory.
  2. To start the system, click Start Server. You can see a status report to confirm that all of the components were started. You must start the system before you can verify the installation, view the documentation, open the administration console, or create enterprise search collections and content analytics collections.
  3. To verify the installation, click Verify Installation. Messages inform you of the success of each operation or whether any problems occurred.
  4. Optional: You can select options to view the product documentation, start the administration console, and test the enterprise search application and content analytics miner.

If this is the first time that you are starting the administration console, or if you have not yet configured additional administrative users, log in to the administration console with the administrator ID that was specified when IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search was installed.
