Configuring release environments

You import application environments from IBM® UrbanCode Deploy and associate them with the release environments in IBM UrbanCode Release.

Before you begin

If you plan to import application environments from IBM UrbanCode Deploy, set up a connection to the server as described in Using the integration provider to integrate with IBM UrbanCode Deploy.

About this task

When you create a release, you assign one or more release environments to each release phase. The release environment represents all the application environments that are associated with it. You associate the environments for the applications in your releases with these release environments. Do not confuse release environments with the application environments that you import from IBM UrbanCode Deploy. Each release environment can contain any number of application environments, and application environments can belong to more than one release environment.

The release phases do not share environments. Each phase has separate environments so that the people who are working on each phase can work independently of other phases. When you create the release, you assign environments to the phases. During the release, you deploy applications to those environments. The Environments page shows the list of available environments.

Procedure

  • To set up release environments:
    1. Click Environments. The Release Environments list shows the available release environments, and the Application Environments list shows the environments that are available on the IBM UrbanCode Deploy server.
    2. To create a release environment, click Add Release Environment. The release environments that you add here are available to use in a release phase.
    3. Optional: Organize the application environments by adding tags to them. You use these tags to configure which application environments are included in automated tasks. See Adding manual tasks to deployment plans.
      1. Optional: Create a tag. Click the Tags tab, click Add New, and specify the name, description, and tag color. Click Save, and then click the Release Environments tab.
      2. In the Applications Environments pane, in the same row as the environment, click the plus sign icon.
      3. From the Tag list, select a tag, and then click Save.
    4. Add application environments to release environments by clicking and dragging the application environment to the release environment. You can filter the display of the contents of both environment panes by using the search boxes at the top of the panes.

    What to do next

You can use these release environments for a release phase. See Creating releases and specifying release details.
