xcadmin password

After you set the administrative (xcadmin) user ID and password, store the information in a reliable location. You can configure email delivery to enable the ability for password resets in the user interface.

Save the user ID and password

The xcadmin user ID and password are necessary to log on to the appliance so put them in a secure location after you change them. If you lose them, and you have no means to recover them, then the appliance must be returned to IBM® for re-manufacturing.

Change the xcadmin password

You can edit the password for xcadmin in the user interface or in the command-line interface for the appliance.

To change the password in the user interface, edit the user. For more information, see Managing users.

To change the password in the command-line interface for the appliance, you can use the user password command. For more information, see Initializing and configuring IBM WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance.

Reset the xcadmin password

You can use one of the following options to reset a forgotten password for the xcadmin user:
Email
If you configure email delivery, all users can restore their passwords by clicking a Forgot password? link on the user interface login screen. An email is delivered to the user that contains a new generated password. For more information, see Managing IBM WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance email delivery.
User interface
If Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is not configured, any user with administrator permissions can modify the xcadmin password in the user interface.
ModifyUserPassword HTTP command
Important: If LDAP is enabled, an LDAP user with administrator permissions must change the password.
For more information, see HTTP command interface reference.
Serial console
Enable the password to be reset from the serial console. After you enable this option, no credential or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) messages are required. To reset the password, you need physical access to the appliance and a serial cable. You must enable this setting before the xcadmin password is lost, unless LDAP is not configured. If LDAP is not configured, another user that has administrator access can enable the setting. If you cannot enable the setting, then you cannot recover from the password loss. Use one of the following methods to enable password resets in the serial console:
