Updating adjacent link stations

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

If the physical links to a communication controller running NCP are reconnected to a different communication controller running another NCP, the link stations specified for automatic activation with the NCPs might need to be updated to reflect the new connections. That is, the CUADDR and RNAME values on the PCCU statement in the NCP definitions might need to be updated. Also, the WARM start option and the WARM operand of the VARY ACT command should be avoided when activating NCPs if the link station specifications are changed. Failure to update the adjacent link station specifications might result in the activation or loading of the wrong communication controller when an NCP is activated.

When VTAM® automatically activates an adjacent link station during activation of an NCP, VTAM expects to find that the link station is connected to a communication controller that either requires loading of an NCP or contains the NCP being activated. If, through an operator or system programmer error, the list of link stations to be automatically activated includes one or more link stations that are connected to the wrong communication controller, VTAM might not detect the error and could assume that this wrong communication controller is to be reloaded with the NCP being activated. Therefore, you should ensure that link stations are correctly chosen for automatic activation with an NCP. Ensure that the link stations are in fact connected to the communication controller that does contain that NCP.
