Selecting a dump file for a MOSS or CSP dump

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

When transferring a MOSS or CSP dump file, VTAM® requires the name of the file in the host that receives the dump.

For a MOSS dump, the dump file can be specified in the PCCU definition statement with the MDUMPDS operand of the PCCU statement or with the DUMPDS operand on the MODIFY DUMP command. You can use the DUMPDS operand to override the specification in the PCCU definition statement or to specify a file if one was not specified. If you do not use the DUMPDS operand on the MODIFY DUMP command, and the PCCU definition statement does not include a MDUMPDS specification, VTAM places the MOSS dump in the file specified for an NCP dump. That is, the MOSS dump is transferred to the file specified by the DUMPDS operand of the PCCU definition statement.

For a CSP dump, the dump file can be specified in the PCCU definition statement with the CDUMPDS operand of the PCCU statement or with the DUMPDS operand on the MODIFY DUMP command. You can use the DUMPDS operand to override the specification in the PCCU definition statement or to specify a file if one was not specified. If you do not use the DUMPDS operand on the MODIFY DUMP command, and the NCP definition does not include a CDUMPDS specification, VTAM places the CSP dump in the file specified for an NCP dump. That is, the CSP dump is transferred to the file specified by the DUMPDS operand in the PCCU definition statement.

To obtain a MOSS or CSP dump, follow the instructions in Dumping an NCP.

If available, the bit error rate (BER) log, component descriptor file (CDF), token-ring interface coupler (TIC) dump, and communication adapter dump are transferred by the MODIFY DUMP command from the hard disk along with the MOSS or CSP dump. If the CSP or MOSS dump is not present, the BER log, CDF, TIC dump, and communication adapter dump are still transferred from the hard disk, but the command fails because the dump you specified was not transferred.
