Implicit dynamic reconfiguration

z/OS Communications Server: SNA Network Implementation Guide
SC27-3672-01

Using implicit dynamic reconfiguration, you can reconfigure an NCP by changing the VTAM® definition of the NCP and then reactivating the NCP. This procedure is disruptive in that deactivation of an NCP causes all existing sessions to be terminated. As soon as possible, you must regenerate and reload the NCP to reflect the changes.

Procedure

Take the following steps to use implicit dynamic reconfiguration:

  1. Modify the existing NCP generation definition and include new definition statements for the PUs and LUs you want to add. You can only add PUs and LUs. You cannot delete or move them.
  2. Issue a VARY INACT command to deactivate the NCP.
  3. Issue a VARY ACT,UPDATE=IMPLICIT (the default) command to reactivate the NCP, using the updated generation definition.

Results

For an example of adding PUs and LUs using implicit dynamic reconfiguration, see Figure 4.
