FUNC=GET_G

z/OS DFSMS Using Data Sets
SC23-6855-00

Start of change

The GET_G function returns SMDEs for all available generations for a specific member. The SMDEs contain the PDSE directory generation information as mapped by the macro IGWSMDE. The SMDE returned can be selected by a combination of name and absolute generation number. The absolute generation number is an ever increasing number that identifies a generation.

Input by Name List

With DESERV GET_G, you can supply a standard name list of one name plus an absolute generation number. Each name is comprised of a 2-byte length field followed by the characters of the name. When searching for names with fewer than eight characters, the names are padded on the right with blanks to make up eight characters. This function returns data in a buffer obtained by the user. The data structure returned in the DESB is the generation descriptor structure. If the space in the buffer is insufficient to contain all entries, the user can start from the last entry return and receive the remaining entries.
