The specified volume is on a device that is not defined with 'share' option in the I/O configuration for MVS™. If JES2 is operating in a multi access SPOOL configuration, the volumes used for the JES2 checkpoint and SPOOL must be on devices defined to z/OS® with the 'share' option. JES2 will verify the definition of the device if SHARED=CHECK was specified on the MASDEF initialization statement.

In the message text:
member-name
The name of the member experiencing the problem. member-name is only displayed if this message is issued when JES2 is attempting to allocate a checkpoint data set on volser.
volser
The volume identifier.

System action

If this message is issued for a checkpoint volume during JES2 initialization, JES2 initiates a checkpoint reconfiguration dialog. If JES2 is already within a checkpoint reconfiguration, JES2 prompts the operator for alternative actions.

If the volume is a required spool volume, JES2 ends. Otherwise, processing continues.

Operator response

If you are attempting to warm start JES2 when this message is received, it is possible that the I/O configuration for MVS has been updated incorrectly. JES2 will not be able to start unless either the definition of the device in the I/O configuration is updated to indicate the device is shared or JES2 is started with MASDEF SHARED=NOCHECK. By starting JES2 with the PARM=CONSOLE option, it is possible to restart JES2 and update the MASDEF SHARED parameter setting. However, you should not operate an MAS until the definition of the device is corrected in the MVS I/O configuration. Contact the programmer responsible for defining devices to the system to correct the device definition.

System programmer response

If you are not familiar with the checkpoint dialog process, see z/OS JES2 Initialization and Tuning Guide for a detailed discussion.

If you are running this JES2 member in a non-MAS environment, specify MASDEF SHARED=NOCHECK.
