Creating a migration definition using the z/OS Migration Management Tool

Before you migrate a WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS® Version 7.0 or later node to Version 9.0, you must create Job Control Language (JCL) jobs (CNTL and DATA datasets) that you will run on z/OS during the actual migration. You can use the z/OS Migration Management Tool to create migration definitions and upload the appropriate migration jobs.

Before you begin

Supported configurations:

This topic is about profile configuration migration. To migrate your applications to the latest version, use the WebSphere Application Server Migration Toolkit.

Procedure

  1. Start the z/OS Migration Management Tool.

Read Starting the z/OS Migration Management Tool for more information.

  2. To initially specify a location where you want migration definition files to be stored on your workstation or to add another migration location to the Migration Locations table, perform the following actions:
    1. Click Add.
    2. Enter the path name of the location where you want to store the migration data.
Important: The migration location directory must be empty when you create a new migration location.
    3. Enter a name to be associated with the table entry.
    4. Select the version of WebSphere Application Server to which you are migrating.
    5. Click Finish.
  3. In the Migration Locations table, select the location where you want to save the migration definition.
  4. Click Migrate.
  5. Complete the fields in the panels using the values that you entered for the variables on the configuration worksheet that you created, clicking Back and Next as necessary.
    Tips:
    • Hover your cursor over a field for help information.
    • Click Cancel at any time to leave the creation process without generating a migration definition.
When you have successfully entered all of the necessary information on the panels for this type of migration definition, the z/OS Migration Management Tool displays the definition type, location, and name on the Migration Summary panel.
  6. Click Create to build the migration definition on your workstation.
  7. Read the information on the Migration Creation Summary panel.
Tip: You might want to make a note of the name and response-file location for future reference.
  8. Click Finish.
