Media Library Management

BRMS becomes the media libraries manager by utilizing the BRMS network. Each media library can have a user-defined set of systems in the BRMS network assigned to it. By having this list of systems assigned to the media library, BRMS will send updates to these systems whenever a media library operation occurs. For example, if System A ejects a volume from TAPMLB01, and System B shows the status of the volume to be in *INSERT mode. System A will actually update System B's status to *EJECT. The volumes status will be synchronized amongst the systems. To set this environment up, you will need to use the BRMS System i Navigator Client. If you have not installed the client, refer to Installing the BRMS System i Navigator Client On Your Workstation..

Once the client is installed, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to a system that is connected to the media library being used.
  2. Select Backup, Recovery, and Media Services and select Manage Devices
  3. On the Manage Devices panel, select the media library you are using.
  4. Select Item actions->Properties.
  5. On the Edit Device panel, click the Network Connections tab.
  6. Click Manage Connections.
  7. On the Manage Connections for Device device-name panel, select List actions from the menu bar.
  8. Select Add.
  9. On the Add Device Connections panel, select the systems connected with the media library.
  10. Click Add. These systems should now show up as connections for the device on the Manage Connections for Device panel.
  11. Click Close.
  12. Click OK.
