Repairing data quality (Hybrid MDM)

When Hybrid MDM encounters data quality errors, tasks are created for the data stewardship team. The tasks are assigned to a user or team and appear on the Work dashboard.

About this task

When the persistEntity service is triggered by the hybrid event handler, if the entity cannot be persisted in Physical MDM because of data quality issues, a notification message is generated. The notification message contains a set of data quality errors.

The IBM® Stewardship Center interface presents the list of data quality issues with details about each issue, such as an incorrect birth date or a missing field. For issues that require changes to virtual MDM source systems, you can send emails to the administrators of the source system with embedded information about the particular issues.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the IBM Stewardship Center Process Portal.
  2. In the Work dashboard, the tasks that need to be resolved are organized by urgency. For example, you might have some Overdue tasks and some tasks that are Due Today.
  3. Click the name of the task to open the task. You are prompted to claim the task if you did not turned off that prompt.
Note: When you open the task, the system determines whether the data quality issue is resolved or if the entity is deleted. A message appears if the task is no longer required.

If there is a connectivity problem, an error message appears suggesting that you to try to open the task later.

  4. Review the information on the screen.
The top of the Repair Data Quality window shows summary information that includes the Surname, Given name, Entity ID, and Source of the person with the record that contains the data violations. Below the summary information is a set of columns:
    • Category
    • Current Value
    • New Value
    • Reviewed
    • Violations
The Category column organizes the information about the person. Some of the categories also have sections. For example, the Person Name category includes the Legal Name section, the Business Name section, and so forth.
Tip: You collapse a section by clicking the section title.
  5. Resolve the violations:
    1. Review the violation and determine which attribute the violation is associated with. The Violations column shows the violations for each category of information. However, the violations are not necessarily next to the attribute that the violation applies to. You need to read the violation to determine which attribute in the category the violation is associated with.
    2. In the New Value column, specify the information that is required to resolve the violation.
    3. Mark the check box next to the violation after you specify a new value.
Note: If you do not know the new value, do not mark the check box.
  6. Optional. Include comments about the changes that you made in the Notification Comments section.
  7. Determine the action that you want to take:
    Option Description
Send Use Send to send an email to the source system data steward or to the person responsible for maintaining the data in the source system.

A window appears with the information that will be included in the email notification to the distributed systems.

You can send partial updates. The email notification shows all of the violations, including the violations that you do not update. If all the violations are resolved, the Repair Data Quality task is closed. If some of the violations are not resolved, the Repair Data Quality window appears after you send the email.

Reset Use Reset to clear any changes or comments that you made from the window. The values are reset to the values that appeared when you opened the task.
Refresh Use Refresh to refresh the window with the current values. Use this button if you have the task open for a long time to ensure that you are working with the most recent values.

If the data quality issues for the entity are resolved or there is a connectivity problem, a message appears at the top of the window.

Save Use Save to save the changes you made so that you can return to this task later.
Close Use Close to close the task.
Escalate Use Escalate to send the task to the Data Steward Manager team to resolve. Text that you add to the Notification Comments section are included when you escalate the task.
