Modifying existing PureSystems virtual system patterns

Before you deploy one of the InfoSphere® MDM virtual system patterns for PureSystems®, you can modify it to match your specific MDM solution requirements.

About this task

The InfoSphere MDM patterns are implemented with virtual system pattern technology. Virtual system patterns enable you to modify the topology of the pattern to ensure that it resembles the topology of the InfoSphere MDM solution in your environment. You can add more scripting packages or virtual images.

You can modify the script packages that are delivered as part of the following default InfoSphere MDM patterns:

The following script packages are considered optional and can be removed from a pattern:

For example, if you want to deploy an InfoSphere MDM instance on DB2 pureScale or IBM PureData System for Transactions with:
  • WebSphere® Application Server default messaging
  • WebSphere Application Server default file-based authentication
  • DB2 database on Linux
You can modify the existing MDM for DB2 LUWPure pattern to remove the script packages that configure WebSphere Message Queue and LDAP authentication.
Tip: Instead of directly editing a supplied pattern, make a clone first. This way, you can preserve the original pattern and give your modified pattern a more accurate name.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the IBM® PureApplication® System workload console or IBM Workload Deployer.
  2. From the menu bar, click Patterns > Virtual Systems.
  3. In the Virtual System Patterns list in the left pane, type MDM in the Search field to filter the list to show only InfoSphere MDM patterns.
  4. Select the existing pattern on which you want to base your new pattern, such as MDM for DB2 LUWPure or MDM for DB2 on zOS.
  5. Make a clone of the original pattern:
    1. From the menu bar, click Clone.
    2. Type a name for the new virtual system pattern and click OK.
  6. From the list of patterns, select your new pattern.
  7. From the menu bar, click Edit. The pattern editor pane opens.
  8. Click the X in the upper right corner of the script package that you want to remove. The script is removed from the queue that is associated with the Deployment Management part.
  9. Repeat the previous step for each script that you want to remove.
  10. Click Done editing to save the pattern and close the pattern editor.
