Installing the IBM Connections Mail Plug-in

To install the IBM® Connections Mail Plug-in, use IBM Installation Manager, the same program that is used to install IBM Connections. For IBM i, manual installation is required.

Installing on other supported platforms

Before you begin

  • Uninstall any previous version of the Connections Mail Plug-in. See Uninstalling the IBM Connections Mail Plug-in.
    Note: The existing socialmail-discovery-config.xml file remains and does not need to be re-configured.
  • Ensure that your environment is configured as described in Preparing to install the IBM Connections Mail Plug-in.
  • After you complete those tasks, restart your Connections servers, to ensure that changes are properly saved.

About this task

For optimal accessibility while installing the Connections Mail Plug-in, install in silent mode. Follow the steps in the IBM Installation Manager documentation, then restart the Connections servers.

Procedure

  1. Download and extract the IBM Connections Mail Plug-in installation file.
  2. Open IBM Installation Manager from the server on which you are installing the Connections Mail Plug-in. This server must be running the WebSphere® Application Server Deployment Manager.
  3. Select File > Preferences, and then select Repositories.
  4. From the Repositories panel, select Add Repository, navigate to the directory to which you saved the Connections Mail Plug-in files, and select the repository.config file.
  5. Click OK until you are returned to the Installation Manager main panel. Click Install.
  6. Select IBM Connections Mail, and click Next.
  7. Read and accept the license agreement, and select Next.
  8. Select Create a new package group. Accept the default value for the Installation Directory field or specify the path to another directory, and click Next. You must remember this file path for Enabling the discovery service for the IBM Connections Mail Plug-in.
  9. Click Next, click Install, and click Finish.

Then, manually stop and start the deployment manager, the node, and all Connections servers manually.

Installing on IBM i

Procedure

  1. Download and extract the IBM Connections Mail Plug-in installation file to a temporary directory.

    Example: /temp/ICM1.5.0_allplatform_install.

  2. In the installation directory /IBM_Connections_Mail_Plug-in_root/silent/, find the Install_Sample_OS400.rsp file.
  3. Edit the Install_Sample_OS400.rsp file, and change this information:
    • <repository location='/temp/ICM1.5.0_allplatform_install'/> - Replace with the full path of the location of the Connections Mail Plug-in installation file.
    • <profile id='IBM Connections Mail' installLocation='/QIBM/ProdData/IBM/ConnectionsMail'> and <data key='eclipseLocation' value='/QIBM/ProdData/IBM/ConnectionsMail'/> - Replace with the full path to the directory on the IBM i machine where you want to install Connection Mail.
    • <data key='user.osgiinstallpath' value='/QIBM/ProdData/IBM/Connections/data/shared/provision/webresources'/> - Replace with the full path of the webresources directory for the Connections environment.
    • <data key='user.custominstallpath' value='/QIBM/ProdData/IBM/Connections/data/shared/customization/OpenSocial/features'/> - Replace with the full path of the OpenSocial/features directory for the Connections environment.
    • <data key='user.lccpath' value='/QIBM/UserData/Websphere/AppServer/<VERSION>/ND/profiles/dmgr/config/cells/cell_name/LotusConnections-config/LotusConnections-config.xml'/> - Replace with the full path to the LotusConnections-config.xml file for the Connections environment.
    • <offering id='com.ibm.sm.offering' version='VERSION_DATE' profile='IBM Connections Mail' features='main.feature' installFixes='none'/> - Replace with the offering ID and version as indicated in the repository.xml file. The repository.xml file is in the Connections Mail Plug-in installation folder. For example, /temp/ICM1.5.0_allplatform_install.
    • <preference name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.eclipseCache' value='/QIBM/Proddata/IBM/SSPShared'/> - Replace with the path to the SSPShared directory.
  4. Open a command prompt and enter the STRQSH command to start the Qshell command shell.
  5. On the command line, change to the Installation Manager directory.

    Example: cd InstallationManager_root/eclipse/tools.

  6. Enter the following command to install the IBM Connections Mail Plug-in: imcl input full path to Install_Sample_OS400.rsp file -log full path to SocialMailInstall.log file -acceptLicense.

    Example: imcl input /temp/ICM1.5.0_allplatform_install/silent/Install_Sample_OS400.rsp -log /temp/ICM1.5.0_allplatform_install/SocialMailInstall.log -acceptLicense.

Results

If Installed com.ibm.sm.offering_VERSION-NO in the /QIBM/ProdData/IBM/ConnectionsMail directory appears in the log, the Connections Mail Plug-in is successfully installed.
