WebSphere Appliance Management Center for WebSphere Appliances Operating Systems: AIX, Linux, Windows

Updating an existing service

You can update an existing service by deploying a new configuration.

Before you begin

About this task

You can update an existing service by deploying new configuration from an appliance to it. To create a service by using an existing configuration, you must provide a configuration export.

You can update only one service at a time, therefore, you can select only one row, or you can select multiple rows, but each service must have the same service name and type.

Services are shown only for appliances that contain services and that run firmware version 5.0 or later. You can undertake operations that use services, for example, creating services, only on appliances that have firmware version 5.0 or later. Therefore, results for IBM® WebSphere DataPower® XC10 Appliance, IBM WebSphere DataPower Edge Appliance XE82, and other appliances that run firmware earlier than version 5.0 are not shown.

Procedure

To update the service, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Management tab.
  2. To see a list of all services, click the Services tab. The Services page opens showing all the services.
  3. Select the service, or services of the same name, that you want to update.
  4. Click Other Actions > Update Service Configuration. The Update Service Configuration window opens.
  5. Specify the configuration source for this service:
    • If the configuration source is stored locally, select Local file. To select the file, click Browse, and navigate to the file.
    • If the configuration file is stored remotely, select Remote location (URL). In the Specify URL field, enter the web address of the file.
  6. Click Next. The Deployment Policy page opens.
  7. Optional: Specify a deployment policy for the service:
    1. In the grid, select one or more services that you want to update.
    2. In the Deployment policy option list, select one of the following options to specify the source of the deployment policy.
      • No policy
      • Policy from a local file
      • Policy from a remote location
Depending on the option that you choose, additional fields are shown for you to complete. If No policy is selected, no additional fields are shown.
    3. Optional: If Policy from a local file is selected, complete the following fields:
      • In the Specify the file field, click Browse to choose the file.
      • In the Policy domain name field, enter the name of the domain that contains the policy.
      • In the Policy name field, enter the policy name.
    4. Optional: If Policy from a remote location is selected, complete the following fields:
      • In the Specify the URL field, enter the web address of the file.
      • In the Policy domain name field, enter the name of the domain that contains the policy.
      • In the Policy name field, enter the policy name.
    5. Click Apply.
If you want to specify a different deployment policy for a different service in the grid, select the service and repeat the instructions in this step.
  8. Click Next. The Services affected by this deployment page opens, which warns you about any other services that have dependencies on any resources that are updated by this configuration deployment. These services are quiesced during the deployment.
  9. If you want to complete the update, click Finish; otherwise, click Cancel.

Results
