Terminology

The IMS Database Space Tuning Guide topics use several unique terms that you should understand before you begin policy-based database tuning.

Unique terms used in this information

The following unique terms are used in this information:

Data element
A data element consists of a data element tag and a data element value pair based on the collected sensor data.
Exception or database exception
Refers to a database exception that is detected while a database is being evaluated. Exception conditions are based on threshold values that are defined in a policy in the REORG domain of Policy Services. This type of policy is called a reorganization policy.
Policy or reorganization policy
Refers to a set of criteria that is used in the policy evaluation process for evaluating database status. Reorganization policies belong to the REORG domain of Policy Services.
Rule
Refers to a criteria for evaluating the status of a database. Rules are contained in one or more reorganization policies.
Sensor data
Sensor data is the information collected from the databases for the purpose of measuring the state of a specific database condition.

These topics use the following IMS unique terms.
