Overview of database space tuning

IBM® IMS Database Solution Pack for z/OS® (also referred to as IMS Database Solution Pack), IBM IMS Database Utility Solution for z/OS (also referred to as IMS Database Utility Solution), and IBM IMS Fast Path Solution Pack for z/OS (also referred to as IMS Fast Path Solution Pack) provide various tools to help you monitor and tune IMS databases.

IMS Solution Packs: IMS Database Space Tuning Guide provides guidance for using the tools that are provided by IMS Database Solution Pack, IMS Database Utility Solution, and IMS Fast Path Solution Pack to achieve optimal performance and to efficiently use space in your IMS databases.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The settings and target values for some key indicators that are suggested throughout this IMS Database Space Tuning Guide are based on experiments on simulated databases and applications in a controlled laboratory environment. The experiments were run in non-production, test environments.

Any suggested target values are provided as guidance for database administrators who do not have practical experience with tuning of their databases. Database performance may be affected by numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the specific applications run against the database, how the database is maintained, and factors beyond those described in this guide that may exist. After gaining experience with the tuning of the real-life databases of their installation, database administrators should review and adapt the proposed target values to their specific databases and operational environments. Therefore, the provided target values must be regarded as general rules of thumb that provide a reasonable starting point when concrete tuning experience with the real-life databases of the installation is lacking.

The following topics provide overview of database space tuning tasks.
