A workflow system is a collection of isolated regions. Each isolated region contains the queues, rosters, and event logs that are necessary to create and process workflows.
Each workflow system is associated with an object store and therefore uses the same database connection pair and schema. Each object store can contain only one workflow system.
An isolated region is a logical subdivision of the workflow system. Isolated regions are often used to provide separate development, testing, and production environments that enable developers and testers to efficiently utilize shared computing resources and provide the necessary isolation between these disparate activities. An isolated region consists of queues, rosters, and event logs.
An isolated region is identified by one or more connection points. Information that is common to all regions in the workflow system is contained in the workflow system properties.
If you have upgraded from a previous release, you might have workflow systems that are considered legacy workflow systems. Legacy workflow systems have the following characteristics:
You can migrate a legacy workflow system to a workflow system by associating the legacy workflow system with an object store. After a workflow system has been migrated, it cannot revert to a legacy workflow system.
