Integration node migration options

IBM® Integration Bus Version 10.0 supports in-place migration to upgrade your integration node components immediately, or parallel migration to migrate your application logic to new Version 10.0 integration nodes.

By using in-place migration, you can migrate your existing integration node components immediately to Version 10.0. You do not need to change your client configurations because the existing integration node is migrated in-place to Version 10.0 on the same computer. However, you must stop your integration node while migration takes place.

If you prefer not to stop the integration node (to avoid problems for your business applications), or if you want to reproduce the integration node function on another computer, you can use parallel migration to associate the application logic on your existing integration node with a separate Version 10.0 integration node.

Restrictions

Consider the following restrictions before deciding whether to use in-place or parallel migration for your integration nodes.
Migration from an x86-64 product
IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 is only available as an x86-64 product. If you migrate from any version of the Windows on x86 product or the Linux® on x86 product to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0, you cannot use in-place migration. If you are migrating from an x86 product, you must use parallel migration and re-create the integration nodes from scratch.
WebSphere® MQ version
If you are performing in-place migration from Version 7.0 or Version 8.0 and you do not have a version of WebSphere MQ that is supported by Version 10.0, you must first install a supported version of WebSphere MQ and migrate your WebSphere MQ resources to this version.
WebSphere MQ enhancements

In IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0, you can take advantage of a greater flexibility in the interactions between IBM Integration Bus and WebSphere MQ.

If you use in-place migration, you must complete your migration to Version 10.0 first. When your deployment is migrated to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0, you can change the WebSphere MQ configuration as required.

If you use parallel migration, you can install and configure an IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0 deployment that takes advantage of the WebSphere MQ flexibility, and then move your applications into the Version 10.0 deployment.

For more information, see WebSphere MQ and migration to IBM Integration Bus Version 10.0.

Maintaining administration security
If you have administration security configured in your current environment by using WebSphere MQ queues, and you perform parallel migration, you must recreate the equivalent administration security settings by using file-based permissions on your new integration nodes; see Authorizing users for administration.
