I/O storage management

Workload management can pass service class importance and goal information to the storage I/O priority manager in the IBM® System Storage® DS8000® series. The information enables the storage I/O priority manager to provide favored processing for I/O requests of important z/OS® workloads that are not achieving their goals.

The storage I/O priority manager may throttle I/O requests to facilitate favored access to storage server resources for other I/O requests. The storage I/O priority manager analyzes the properties of the service class period associated with an I/O request and determines whether the I/O request should be favored, or throttled.
