Controlling the information passed to the I/O manager

The STORAGESERVERMGT=YES|NO parameter in the IEAOPTxx member of SYS1.PARMLIB controls whether service class importance and goal information is passed to the storage I/O priority manager.

STORAGESERVERMGT=YES specifies that SRM should Start of changeprovideEnd of change service class importance and goal information to the storage I/O priority manager. The default is STORAGESERVERMGT=NO. Before specifying STORAGESERVERMGT=YES, verify that your IBM® System Storage® DS8000® model incorporates the I/O priority manager feature. Start of changeFurthermore, verify if the service option I/O Priority Management in the WLM service definition is set to YESEnd of change.

Throttle delays introduced by the storage I/O priority manager are reflected in control unit queue delays. Therefore, if STORAGESERVERMGT=YES is specified, control unit queue delays are not considered when the execution velocity is calculated for service class periods with a velocity goal.

If you have significant control unit queue delays in your installation, you might have to adjust the velocity goal of service class periods when you specify STORAGESERVERMGT=YES.
