To remove the current cable assignment from the connection, select this connection in the Cable Assignments dialog and press the Edit button. This opens the Assign Cable dialog where you press the Clear button and then the OK button. Back in the Cable Assignments dialog, you can now find the cable in the 'Unused cables' view with no cable assignment.
