HCM offers a Copy Partition wizard to let
you copy a source partition configuration to a target partition. You
can create the target partition on the same processor as the source
partition, or on a different processor or channel subsystem. Reserved
partitions can be neither source nor target of the copy action.
You can invoke this wizard with the Copy… button
for a selected partition from the Partitions dialog,
or from the Edit a Partition list. Also, you
can invoke it from the Copy… menu item
of a partition 's context menu .
This wizard helps you to perform the following steps. For a better
understanding of the wizard 's panel flow, refer to Figure 1.
- Specify the target partition. The wizard dialog for this step
queries all information required for the target partition, for example,
its target processor and channel subsystem, if the target is an XMP processor,
the partition ID and number. You cannot change, however, the usage
(OS or CF) for the target.
- Map those CHPIDs which have the source partition in their access
or candidate list to CHPIDs on the target processor or channel subsystem.
- Decide whether you want to move the physical connections from
the source to the target by choosing either the Upgrade or
the Repeat scenario.
- If you selected the Repeat scenario, perform
the following :
- You need to assign connections between the source CHPIDs and switch
ports to new corresponding connections in the target.
- You need to assign connections of the source CHPIDs to new controller
interfaces to the target.
- Examine the summary of the partition information that is to be
copied. Click Finish to perform the operation.
The wizard displays appropriate dialogs as you proceed through
these steps. For further information about how to complete these dialogs,
refer to the online help that is available for each wizard page. Also
refer to How HCM handles connections when using the copy wizards.
