z/OS Planning for Installation
GA32-0890-02

This topic lists the tasks for installing z/OS®. You can use this checklist of tasks as an aid when creating your installation plan.

To install in the broad sense means to perform the tasks necessary to make a system operational. The starting point is the decision to install, either for the first time or a subsequent time (the latter being an upgrade). The ending point is a system in production.

An upgrade involves migration, during which you install your new system with the objective of making it functionally compatible with the previous system, followed by exploitation, which involves taking advantage of the enhancements in the new release.

This checklist can be used by either the first-time installer (whose enterprise never had z/OS before) or the installer who is upgrading to a new release.
