Installing a SametimeCommunity Server without using the Sametime System Console, on AIX, Linux, or Windows

Install an IBM® Sametime® Community Server without creating a deployment plan on the Sametime System Console. This type of installation supports the use of a native IBM Domino® Directory with the Sametime Community Server. It is also required for installing Sametime Community Server Limited Use.

Before you begin

IBM Domino must be successfully installed before you can install the Sametime Community Server.

Complete any pending restarts left from installing other applications. Make sure that all applications on the computer (including the Domino Server Administrator and the web browser) are closed.

All Domino services must be stopped to avoid corrupting shared files.

IBM AIX® or Linux: If you are installing using the GUI mode, the full X11 desktop environment is required.

Procedure

  1. On the computer where you will install Sametime Community Server, log on as root (AIX or Linux) or as the system administrator (Microsoft Windows).
  2. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the installation package and start the installation program by running the appropriate command:
    • AIX: ./setupaix.bin
    • Linux: ./setuplinux.bin
    • Windows: setupwin32.exe
  3. Select the language to use for the installation, and then click OK.
  4. At the Welcome screen, click Next.
  5. At the license agreement screen, click I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next.
  6. Select the option to install without using the Sametime System Console, and then click Next.
  7. When prompted for the type of user directory you will use, select Domino Directory, and then click Next.
  8. For the Server Host Name, type the fully qualified host name for this Sametime Community Server, and then click Next.

Do not use an IP address or the host's short name.

  9. When prompted to Connect to Domino Server, provide the administrator user name and password for the Domino server, then click Next.

Use the common-name portion of the ID (not the hierarchical name that includes slashes).

  10. Choose whether to Enable HTTP Tunneling, and then click Next.

Selecting this option allows Sametime clients to make HTTP-tunneled connections on port 80 to a server with a single IP address. Selecting this feature increases the possibility that users in restrictive network environments can exchange data in chats on a Sametime Community Server that is extended to the Internet.

  11. Review the summary, and then click Install to start the installation.
  12. Click Finish to close the installation program.
