Installing the Sametime Bandwidth Manager

Install a single, stand-alone IBM® Sametime® Bandwidth Manager and connect to the bandwidth management database and the LDAP directory.

Before you begin

If you have already installed Sametime Bandwidth Manager and are re-installing it, complete the procedure to remove the jdbc/bwm data source Deleting the jdbc/bwm data source on the Bandwidth Manager. The jdbc/bwm data source was created automatically during Bandwidth Manager installation. Failure to remove the old data source might cause errors in the new installation.

About this task

Use this method to install a single, stand-alone Bandwidth Manager that you will never need to add to a cluster.

Important: If you choose the stand-alone option, you will not be able to add the server to a cluster later. If you think you might ever need to install in a cluster, create a cluster now. For information on a clustered deployment, see Clustering Sametime Bandwidth Managers.

  1. Installing WebSphere Application Server 7 for a stand-alone Bandwidth Manager
    Install IBM WebSphere® Application Server 7 Linux or Microsoft Windows for use with the IBM Sametime Bandwidth Manager.
  2. Updating the db2.connection.properties file for the stand-alone Bandwidth Manager
    This procedure prepares a Sametime Bandwidth Manager Server for a stand-alone installation. If you anticipate expanding the Bandwidth Manager deployment to support high availability, skip this section and follow the instructions to install a cluster of Bandwidth Manager Servers.
  3. Updating the websphere_configuration.properties file for the stand-alone Bandwidth Manager
    Update the websphere_configuration.properties file included in the IBM Sametime Bandwidth Manager installation package and add settings for your deployment.
  4. Installing the Sametime Bandwidth Manager application
    Install the IBM Sametime Bandwidth Manager application.
  5. Enabling security on a stand-alone Bandwidth Manager
    Set administrative security for the IBM WebSphere Application Server.
  6. Creating an administrator for the Bandwidth Manager application
    Finish setting up security by enabling access to the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) name service for all service groups, creating an IBM Sametime Bandwidth Manager administrator, and adding the administrator to all security roles.
  7. Verifying the Sametime Bandwidth Manager installation
    For best results, you should verify that the IBM Sametime Bandwidth Manager installation was successful before you configure the new server.
  8. Connecting the stand-alone Bandwidth Manager to the LDAP server
    Configure the IBM WebSphere Application Server federated repository for LDAP access.
